Our first Movie Under the Stars was a great success! Even with so many other events happening, we were thrilled to see so many families join us for a fun night together.
Thank you to our amazing PTO (SPOT) and Southern Heights staff for making it happen, and to all our families for coming out. We look forward to more events like this for our students and families in the future.

A Huge Thank You to SPOT!
We are so grateful for the incredible ladies of SPOT (our PTO) for everything they do to support our campus, students, and faculty. Their dedication, hard work, and heart make such a difference every single day.
As a small token of our appreciation, our teachers and administration put together these baskets to show how much we value and admire all that you do.

Yesterday our 3rd-graders participated in a fun, hands-on science activity in anticipation of Emily Calandrelli’s appearance at the Jack Maddox Distinguished Speaker Series tomorrow.
This classroom activity gave them a chance to feel the excitement surrounding science and see how it’s all around us every day.
What an inspiring way to show our young learners that science is everywhere and that everything in nature is always changing!

HMS would like to inform the community that services for longstanding educator and HMS School Board member Peggy Appleton, along with her husband Terry will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 10:30 am at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. HMS would like to thank all who have contacted us and shared great stories about their service to the students of Hobbs, and sympathy and prayers for their family and to our staff. The Appleton's will truly be missed by all at HMS and in Hobbs . They were the best example of service above self.

🛑⭐️We want to thank the HMS staff like Mills PE teacher Kassie Bigham, that take on the responsibility to ensure that our students can cross streets and drop off lanes safely on their way to and from school! We thank you all for taking that extra step to ensure that our students are safe every day! #studentcentered

Hobbs Municipal Schools is proud to announce the appointment of Shawn Hardison as the new Director of Safety & Security. With more than two decades of law enforcement and security experience, Hardison brings deep knowledge, local expertise, and a proven commitment to student safety to his new role.
Hardison served the City of Hobbs for over 20 years as a sergeant with the Hobbs Police Department. His career included assignments as a detective, field training officer, school resource officer within Hobbs Municipal Schools, and a SWAT officer. His experience in both crisis response and proactive prevention uniquely equips him to lead safety initiatives across the district.
After retiring from HPD, Hardison continued his service to the community as a Security Specialist with URENCO USA for the past three years, further enhancing his knowledge in facility protection, emergency preparedness, and federal compliance.
“We are excited to welcome Mr. Hardison back to Hobbs Municipal Schools in this important leadership role,” said Superintendent Gene Strickland. “His years of service in Hobbs, both as a peace officer and school resource officer, give him a strong understanding of the needs and challenges our schools face. His commitment to student and staff safety is unwavering.”
Assistant Superintendent for Operations Doug Young echoed the sentiment: “Shawn Hardison brings not only experience, but trust and familiarity within our community. His leadership will help ensure that our campuses remain secure, welcoming, and prepared to respond to any safety concern.”
As Director of Safety & Security, Hardison will oversee district-wide safety planning, emergency procedures, security personnel, and coordination with local law enforcement agencies. He will also be instrumental in implementing ongoing training and proactive safety measures across all Hobbs campuses.
“I am honored to take on this new role,” said Hardison. “I’ve spent most of my career working to protect the people of Hobbs. Returning to serve the schools—where the safety of our children is at paramount every day—is both a great responsibility and a personal mission."

In coordination with our strong partnership with City of Hobbs, Hobbs PD, Lea County and Lea County Sheriff’s Office, Hobbs Municipal Schools is seeking to fill the new position of Director of School Safety and Security within our district.
Hobbs Schools remains grateful for the continued partnership with our local law enforcement organizations for their sustained commitment to a uniformed presence at Hobbs Schools. As a solid signal of our partnership, this new position will bolster current efforts to facilitate our safety and security efforts within our district in conjunction with each of our community partners for the overall safety of our students and staff.
