We want to recognize Mr. Fierros’s class for achieving perfect attendance this week and earning the privilege of displaying our Attendance Trophy. This accomplishment reflects a strong commitment to learning and being present for their classmates.
Attendance matters. Students learn best when they are here each day, participating in instruction, discussions, and hands-on activities that build understanding. Consistent attendance helps students stay on track and reach their full potential. Well done to this group for setting a positive example.


Queremos reconocer a la clase del señor Fierros por lograr asistencia perfecta esta semana y por obtener el privilegio de exhibir nuestro Trofeo de Asistencia en su salón. Este logro refleja un fuerte compromiso con el aprendizaje y con estar presentes para sus compañeros.
La asistencia es importante. Los estudiantes aprenden mejor cuando están aquí todos los días y participan en la instrucción, las discusiones y las actividades prácticas que fortalecen su comprensión. La asistencia constante ayuda a los estudiantes a mantenerse al día y alcanzar su máximo potencial. Excelente trabajo de este grupo por establecer un ejemplo positivo.

National Special Education Day is observed on December 2nd to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) in 1975. The day honors the progress made in special education and raises awareness about the importance of providing children with disabilities access to a free and appropriate public education. It is a time to recognize the work of special education teachers and advocates, celebrate student achievements, and promote inclusion.

🦅Hobbs Eagles! Important information regarding the upcoming holiday schedule. ⭐️Please be sure to save these dates⭐️

This season, we are working together to support families in our Southern Heights community. We are collecting non-perishable holiday meal items to create Thanksgiving baskets now through Thursday, November 20, 2025.
Pre-K and Kinder, 1st and 2nd Grade, and 3rd through 5th Grade hallways will each be contributing to a basket. If donations allow, we will create additional baskets to support even more families.
Donations can be dropped off in the front office or sent with your student to their teacher. Thank you for your generosity and for helping our school community take care of one another.
Esta temporada, estamos trabajando juntos para apoyar a las familias de nuestra comunidad de Southern Heights. Estamos recolectando alimentos no perecederos para crear canastas de Día de Acción de Gracias desde ahora hasta el jueves 20 de noviembre de 2025.

It is time to let your Eagle Pride shine! We are kicking off an exciting art challenge tied directly to our school-wide goal: daily attendance.
We challenge all K–12 students to design an original Eagle artwork that perfectly represents Hobbs pride and clearly illustrates the crucial theme: "Don't Drop the Ball - Attend Daily!" Show us how important it is to be in class every single day.
The winning artwork will get huge exposure, appearing on:

The official Eagle Mascot’s T-Shirt!
Game-day promotions and displays!

Tuesday, November 4: NO SCHOOL for Election Day

Wednesday, November 5: All Hobbs Schools will release early for Lea County In-Service for Staff Elementary schools will release at 12:20 PM, Secondary schools will release at 11:30 am.

Please make arrangements for your student(s) on both these days and thanks!

We are excited to share an invitation from Coach Jason Kirkland, Head Boys and Girls Cross Country Coach for Hobbs.
All elementary and middle school students are invited to participate in the Hobbs Cross Country Race on Friday, October 25 at 11:00 AM at Watson Memorial Stadium.
This event is free and open to all students. No prior sign-up is required. Students can simply arrive at the stadium and register on site. It is a great opportunity for students to enjoy some healthy competition and fun outside the classroom.

🗳️ Hobbs Families & Community – November 4th is an important day!
On the ballot: the 2 Mill Levy and 4 Mill Levy for Hobbs Municipal Schools.
🔹 2 Mill Levy → Focuses on core school facilities, maintenance, vehicles, and classroom technology.
🔹 4 Mill Levy → Covers those same needs PLUS larger-scale technology infrastructure and facility projects.
The funds raised allows us to provide schools that are safe, functional, and equipped for our students and their future.
💡 Important to know: By New Mexico State Statute, Mill Levy funds cannot be used for teacher salaries. They are only for educational facilities, technology, and other tangible needs that directly impact students and classrooms.

📅 Absentee voting and early voting at the Lea County Courthouse begins Oct. 7th!
👉Any registered voter living in the Hobbs Municipal School District is eligible to vote in the Mill Levy election.

Our first Movie Under the Stars was a great success! Even with so many other events happening, we were thrilled to see so many families join us for a fun night together.
Thank you to our amazing PTO (SPOT) and Southern Heights staff for making it happen, and to all our families for coming out. We look forward to more events like this for our students and families in the future.

We are so grateful for the incredible ladies of SPOT (our PTO) for everything they do to support our campus, students, and faculty. Their dedication, hard work, and heart make such a difference every single day.

This Friday night, we’re rolling out the big screen for a free family movie night right here at Southern Heights. Students and their families are invited to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and enjoy a magical evening under the stars together.

This special night is our way of saying thank you to our amazing community and the wonderful families of Southern Heights. We can’t wait for this to become a new tradition and the first of many memorable nights ahead!

Yesterday our 3rd-graders participated in a fun, hands-on science activity in anticipation of Emily Calandrelli’s appearance at the Jack Maddox Distinguished Speaker Series tomorrow.
This classroom activity gave them a chance to feel the excitement surrounding science and see how it’s all around us every day.
What an inspiring way to show our young learners that science is everywhere and that everything in nature is always changing!

📚✨ Family Literacy Night is this Thursday! ✨📚
Bring the whole family for an evening of reading fun, hands-on activities, and connection. It’s a wonderful chance for students and families to dive into literacy together while having a great time!

Did you know that our Nutrition Services whenever possible orders New Mexico food products and other items to ensure that we are supporting the local and state economy?
1000 pounds of New Mexico Beef and 600 pounds of New Mexico Beans means that today our students are getting the best in their lunch and makes a day like ‘Taco Tuesday’ even more delicious!
As always, it is a great day to eat school lunch at HMS!⭐️
